1963/1964 half-moon vibrato

Here comes the fourth generation of the series, distinguished by its vibrato mechanism concealed under a half-moon shaped plate. This is actually a mere cosmetic update, the mechanism itself (quite similar to Hagström’s Tremar) remains basically the same. The brandname Welson is stamped on it, as it is also on the pickups.

As for the finish of this example…. No further comment is needed.

In arrivo la quarta generazione del modello, caratterizzata dalla sagoma a mezza-luna della placchetta che copre il meccanismo del vibrato. L ’aggiornamento è solo cosmetico, il meccanismo (molto simile al Tremar di Hagström) rimane più o meno lo stesso. Il marchio Welson è inciso sulla piastra, come sui pickup.

There is no collection of 60’s guitars like Ugo’s. He has seven (SEVEN!) Welson sparkle guitars, each one with unique finishes. You dreamt of a Welson with a sparkling cherry celluloid on both sides of the body? Too late, Ugo owns it!

Dating Welson guitars is always a tricky job. I think that the present configuration was started in late 1963 but I cannot prove it so far. A conservative choice is to assign all instruments of this generation to the year 1964.

La collezione di chitarre degli anni 60 di Ugo è veramente unica. Possiede ben sette (SETTE!) Welson a brillantini, tutte con finiture introvabili. Ne avete sognato una con celluloide di questa sfumatura su entrambi i lati del corpo? Troppo tardi, Ugo ce l’ha!

La datazione di queste Welson è sempre difficoltosa. Credo che la presente configurazione sia stata iniziata alla fine del 1963 ma finora senza certezza assoluta. Per precauzione, attribuiamo tutti gli strumenti di questa generazione al 1964.
