Eko Barracuda 290/990

Few words for a model that enters the catalogue in 1963 and that never leaves it again. Probably after the models 100/200, the most long-lasting guitar of the gamma, thanks to the hollow body boom, the 290 model has the honour to appear on the cover of the catalogue during the early years after its introduction, was surely a model thought to meet the needs of the market and generate big volume of sales.
On this model, later called Barracuda, we have seen all the possible technical evolutions of Eko, from the loss of the adjustable neck to the headstock in 1965, to a wide range of controls and electronics, to the changes of the headstocks.
From the second half of the 70s this guitar comes back to being the clone of the Gibson 335, loosing all the original characteristics of the fetish guitar that was.

Poche parole per un modello che entra in catalogo nel 63 e che non ne esce più. Probabilmente dopo i modelli 100/200, la chitarra più longeva nella gamma.
Grazie al boom delle semiacustiche, il modello 290 ha l’onore delle copertine del catalogo nei primi anni della sua introduzione, sicuramente un modello pensato per venire incontro il mercato e generare grandi volumi di vendite. Sul modello 290, successivamente denominato Barracuda, abbiamo visto tutte le evoluzioni tecniche della Eko, dall’abbandono della regolazione del manico alla paletta nel 65, a una grande varietà di controlli ed elettronica, ai cambiamenti di paletta.
Dalla seconda metà degli anni 70 la chitarra torna a essere un clone della Gibson 335, perdendo tutte le caratteristiche originali della chitarra feticcio che fu.
La datazione è basata sui cataloghi disponibili e va presa con beneficio di inventario.

Dopo l’incendio del 1966 si prese subito la decisione di iniziare l’assemblaggio con qualsiasi cosa si trovasse in magazzino. Non è infrequente trovare Barracuda con la regolazione del truss-rod alla paletta e i nuovi pick-up.
